Today I went out to my favourite park, at Patricia Bay, next to the Victoria Airport. I love to watch the airplanes come in right over my head.
Nothing is quite so exciting as watching an airplane fly right towards you as if it’s going to land on your head!! Then, as it roars overhead, you feel the power of the engines and wonder how it stays up in the air.

We watched two small airplanes fly overhead in formation – they looked like they were only a few feet apart! I guess they were practicing for an airshow.
We also saw small planes doing “touch and go” as the pilots learned how to take off and land. The a big airplane full of tourists came in and I wished my sister was on the one from Edmonton, coming to visit me.
It’s fun to look at the different kinds of airplanes and check on the airport website to see where they have come from.
I also like to see the airplanes taking off, but the runway is further away and not quite so exciting. A small parking area near the airport hangars at the end of Canora Road is a good place to watch.
There is also a park on Mills Road, where you can see all of the runways. The accessible parking is gravel and is downhill from the park, so you need to be strong to get up there in a manual chair.
It’s also a good place to get on the paved pathway that goes right around the airport, fully accessible but with a few hills along the way. I love doing it in my power chair.
The Victoria Airport has lots to offer anyone with an interest in outdoor activities or airplanes.
